Two large shadows weaved in and out of the dark, covered forest. Squirrels scattered in many directions, birds took to the air in fright. Only the soft rustle of leaves alerted the small animals. Then, a small opening in the trees was flooded wit sunlight. A large, muscular dog appeared in the sudden light. His head was held high, his ears pricked for any sound of large animals. Akiak’s nose twitched as the smells of the forest disrupted his trail.
A large rustle and some fallen twigs snapping turned his attention to behind himself. Aceline, or Ace as she liked to be called, appeared shaking leaves and dirt off herself. She gave a large sneeze as the dust and dirt surrounded her head. Akiak gave a loud snort of annoyance.
“Oh how I loathe hunting with you.” He growled under his breath. He started to pad towards the main hunting grounds, being as quiet as possible, sniffing out and avoiding traps.
“You know, your remarks do hurt sometimes! Did you see that snare that almost got me? But I was too qui OOFF!” Ace was able to bark before she fell over a pretty noticeable fallen branch. She was never known for her grace.
“Keep up Aceline! We must meet Onai quickly. The caribou are migrating and we need to report what direction they are heading.” Akiak grunted. Aceline rolled her eyes at her formal name, and her brother’s behavior. He always had to be on duty. Being a good little Beta.
They made it to the field and sat and waited for Onai. Ace managed to catch some rabbits for lunch without tripping ten times.
